Operation
Obey all local laws concerning loading, unloading,
and transport of equipment.
NOTE: Keep the trailer bed clean.
Use a ramp or loading dock. Make sure the ramp
weight capacity will support the motor grader and
has a low angle of rise to the trailer bed.
Center the grader with the trailer and load the
grader on the trailer bed by driving straight on. The
motor grader centerline must be over the centerline
of the trailer.
Lower the moldboard length onto wooden blocks
to protect trailer bed. Do not apply downward
pressure.
Cover the exhaust opening with heavy gauge plastic
to prevent dust and moisture entering the engine.
Remove the plastic cover from the
exhaust before operating the motor grader.
Preparing for Motor Grader
Towing
Improper towing methods and
equipment can result in severe personal
injury or death. Read and understand towing
instructions and precautions.
It is recommended that all towing operations be
performed by a professional towing service.
The operator must be in the operator's
seat to control steering and brakes. Steering, brakes,
and transmission may be operational depending on
type of failure and options available.
Wheels must be blocked from moving
while preparing grader for towing.
NOTE: Towing or pushing cannot be used to start
the engine.
NOTE: Do not tow motor grader long distances.
Transport the grader instead.
1.
Block wheels of grader to prevent grader from
moving.
2. Locate the brake release screw (Figure 4-13)
(screw has square head) on the bottom of the rear
axle.
3. Using a caliper, measure the exact extension of the
screw and record measurement.
4. Turn the screw all the way in to release the brakes
for towing the machine.

5. Lift and secure the scarifier, moldboard, and front
blade (if equipped).
6. Shift FNR lever to Neutral.

After Towing

To return the grader to normal operation after
towing, proceed as follows:
1.
Block wheels of grader to prevent grader from
moving.
2. Ensure that FNR lever is in Neutral.
3. Adjust brake release screw (Figure 4-13) (screw
has square head) to the exact position measured in
Step 3 of MOTOR GRADER TOWING.
NOTE: Steering, brakes, and transmission may not
be operational depending on the failure type.
Operator must be in operator's seat to
control steering and brakes.
NOTE: Engine cannot be started by towing. Damage
to transmission will result.
