Operation

ENGINE OPERATION

Preliminary

NOTE: Refer to engine manufacturer's operation and
maintenance manual for instructions before
starting engine for the first time. Follow engine
manufacturer's recommendations for fuel and
oil.
Before starting the engine:
1.
Check fuel level.
2. Check fuel lines and tank for leaks.
3. Check engine oil level.
Failure to maintain correct engine oil
levels is the greatest single cause of engine
failure.
4. Check the hydraulic oil level.
5. Adjust the operator's seat as needed for safe and
comfortable operation of all controls.
6. Adjust the pedestal/steering wheel as needed for
safe and comfortabe operation of all controls.
7.
Adjust rear view mirrors as needed for safe
operation and ability to see surroundings.
8. Fasten seat belt (Figure 4-2).
9. Enusure that battery disconnect switch (Figure
4-12) is set to ON.

10. Place direction control lever (Figure 3-7) in
NEUTRAL (center position).
11. Make sure parking brake (Figure 3-8) is engaged
(up position).

Engine Start-up

Direction Control Lever (Figure 3-3)
must be in NEUTRAL (center) position and
Parking Brake (Figure 3-8) must be applied
before starting engine.

Insert key into the ignition switch (Figure 3-3). Turn
clockwise to START (
2. Release key as soon as engine starts.
Do not operate starter longer than
20 seconds. If engine does not start, allow
starter to cool for 2 to 3 minutes before
attempting to start engine.
3. Run engine for 30 seconds.
4. Check indicator and gauge operation, pressures,
and warning light.

Engine Warm-up

Allow engine and hydraulic oil to warm
up before activating components.
1.
Start engine and run for several minutes. Do not
accelerate rapidly during warm-up.
2. Operate engine at less-than-normal loads and
speeds until engine reaches normal operating
temperature.
Cold Weather Engine Start-up
(40°F or below)
The improper use of starting aids
(starting fluid) can cause severe engine
damage and personal injury. Read and
understand the engine manufacturer's
operation and maintenance manual before
attempting to start the engine using cold
weather starting aids. Engines equipped with
glow plugs and some turbocharged engines
will be damaged by using starting fluid for
starting purposes.
