Maintenance
Installation
1.
Refer to Preparing Grader for Maintenance on
page 5-6 and park grader.
2. Install end connectors on the new steering cylinder
using the same number of turns noted during
removal.
3. Install hydraulic fittings on replacement fittings.
4. Position the steering cylinder for installation on the
frame mounts.
5. Adjust the end connectors to mate with the frame
and position the cylinder for hose installation.
6. Secure the end connectors by tightening the end
connector jam nuts.
7.
Install the end connector's slotted hex nuts, pulling
the ball joints through the mount, and securing
cylinder installation.
8. Install new cotter pins to secure.
9. Using tags created during removal, remove plugs,
and connect steering cylinder hydraulic hoses.
10. Using a grease gun, lubricate cylinder swivel joints.
11. Start motor grader and check operation.
12. Repair leaks as necessary.

Replacing Wheel Lean Cylinder

Removal
NOTE: Before shutting down engine, make sure
wheel lean cylinder is retracted.
1.
Refer to Preparing Grader for Maintenance on
page 5-27 and park grader.
2. Thoroughly clean wheel lean cylinder (Figure
5-40), especially areas surrounding hydraulic
hoses and fittings.

3. Tag and disconnect the hydraulic hoses.
Immediately plug the hoses and cylinder ports to
prevent contamination of the hydraulic system.
4. Raise front of grader enough to allow axle to be
tilted and inside pin removed (as one side of the
cylinder is welded).
5. Support front of grader with approved jack stands.
6. Using a ball joint removal tool, remove the ball joint
while supporting the cylinder.
7.
While supporting the wheel lean cylinder (Figure
5-40), remove the jam nut from the rod-side of the
cylinder.
8. Remove the cotter pin and slotted hex nut from the
ball-side of the wheel lean cylinder(s).
9. Remove the wheel lean cylinder.
NOTE: Ensure ball joint is clean prior to
installation/re-greasing.
10. Inspect hydraulic fittings.
11. Remove fittings for reuse on replacement cylinder
or replace if necessary.
Installation
1.
Refer to Preparing Grader for Maintenance on
page 5-6 and park grader.
2. Install hydraulic fittings on replacement wheel lean
cylinder.
3. Place new or rebuilt wheel lean cylinder in position
between front axle spindle and front axle support.
4. Secure with slotted hex nuts.
5. Install new cotter pins in mounting pins.
6. Use tags created during removal to properly install
hydraulic hoses on wheel lean cylinder fittings.
7.
Use a grease gun to lubricate wheel lean cylinder
swivel joints.
8. Remove supports and lower grader.
9. Start motor grader and check operation. Repair
leaks as necessary.
