Operation
Scarifier Control
The scarifier is used to break up packed surfaces. The
support teeth should penetrate the surface. Do not allow
the teeth to drag the surface, which creates excessive
wear on the teeth.
The scarifier can be raised and lowered using the
scarifier lever.
Push the scarifier lever to lower the scarifier. Pull the
scarifier lever to raise the scarifier.
Moldboard Tilt Control
The moldboard tilt lever (Figure 3-5,5) allows the
operator to tilt the moldboard. Moldboard tilt angles the
blade to provide varying degrees of cutting.
Push the lever forward to tilt the moldboard forward and
pull the lever to tilt the moldboard towards the rear.
For normal grading, use the moldboard in the upright
position. The blade should be positioned with the top
parallel to, or slightly ahead of, the bottom edge.
When greater cutting action is needed, use backward
pitch on the moldboard, which draws the top of the
moldboard backwards. Too much tilt can cause dirt to
build up and contact the circle, due to a lack of rolling
action. Adjust moldboard as necessary.
When spreading material, or maintaining roads,
moldboard should be tipped forward which allows for
better mixing and rolling action. This tends to compact
material and fill low spots. Only tilt forward to the
minimum angle needed for compacting or filling.

Directional Control

The Model 695 Motor Grader is equipped with a
variable speed hydrostatic transmission and variable
hydraulic motor. The transmission and hydraulic motor
are controlled separately.
A direction control lever (Figure 3-7) controls the
hydraulic flow and direction of flow through the
hydrostatic transmission. The direction control lever
(Figure 3-7) is used to control forward/reverse
movement, acceleration, and braking.
To move forward:
9. Push parking brake lever (Figure 3-8) down to
release parking brake.
10. Advance throttle to working speed (RPM) by sliding
throttle control lever (Figure 3-7) forward toward
HIGH (
) position.
4-16
11. Push the direction control lever (Figure 3-7)
forward to move the grader forward. Push the
direction control lever (Figure 3-7) backwards,
beyond the neurtral point, to move the grader in
reverse.
Articulation and Steering Control
Motor grader steering is done using a combination of
controls.
The steering wheel (Figure 3-3,22) is used for general
steering.
The articulation lever (Figure 3-5,6) is used to articulate
the front section of the grader for tighter turns.
The steering wheel and articulation can be used with the
wheel lean lever (Figure 3-5,9) for tight turns.
Articulation is also used to maintain a straight path when
working with a windrow.
Push the articulation lever (Figure 3-5,6) to move the
front end to the left. Pull the lever to move the front end
to the right.
Front Wheel Lean Control
The front wheel lean lever is used to set the front
wheels at an angle.
Wheel lean is used for material movement control and to
obtain a shorter turning radius.
Pull the lever to lean the wheels to the right. Push the
lever to lean the wheels to the left.
Lean the wheels toward the windrow when making a
heavy cut.
Circle Shift Control
The circle shift lever allows the operator to shift the
circle and moldboard assembly left and right.
Push the lever forward to move the circle and
moldboard assembly to the left. Pull the lever back to
move the circle and moldboard assembly to the right.
Optional Front Traction Assist Control
Optional front traction drive motors can be engaged
using the front traction switch mounted on the right-
hand moldboard lift lever. The front traction motors
are designed to assist with traction when working with
heavy materials. The green front traction assist light will
illuminate when front traction assist is engaged.
