BREAK-IN PROCEDURES

NOTE: Make every effort to become familiar with the
feel and sound of the grader.
1.
Observe engine operation carefully.
2. Check the engine oil and coolant frequently.
3. Operate engine at normal loads.
4. Check indicators and gauges frequently during
operation.
5. Avoid excessive engine idling.
6. Perform 10 hour or daily service.
7.
Watch for fluid leaks and repair immediately.
8. Lubricate pivots every 10 hours for first 100 hours.
9. Check and tighten wheel lug nuts. Tighten to 350
ft-lbf (474.536 N-m).
10. Perform service intervals as shown in section 5,
Maintenance.
11. Change the engine oil and filter after 100 hours of
engine operation (refer to section 5, Maintenance).
12. Check engine manufacturer's operation and
maintenance manual for additional information
regarding engine break-in.
13. Check the parking brake to make sure it is
operating properly.

PRE-START INSPECTION

Note: Refer to section 5, Maintenance, for
maintenance procedures.
• INSPECT grader. Have any malfunctioning, broken, or
missing parts repaired or replaced before using the
motor grader.
• CHECK hydraulic hoses daily for wear and leaks.
Replace if damaged.
• CHECK that all instruction and safety labels are in
place and readable. These are as important as any
other equipment on the grader.
• CHECK parking brake to ensure it's working properly.
• READ and FOLLOW all instruction decal information.
• WEAR OSHA required safety equipment when
running the motor grader.
• CHECK engine oil, transmission fluid, and hydraulic oil
levels. Fill to the correct level as necessary.

• CHECK that there is fuel in the fuel tank and refill as
needed. FILL the fuel tank with the engine off. NEVER
fill fuel tank near an open flame or when smoking.
• CHECK for frayed or worn electrical wires and loose
or corroded connections.
• CHECK tires for wear, cuts, and damage. CHECK air
pressure. INSPECT wheels for loose, damaged, or
missing hardware.
• CHECK pedals and levers for freedom of movement.
MAKE SURE operator's compartment is free of debris.
• CHECK steps and supports for damage.
• CHECK protective devices, cab, ROPS (roll over
protection system), canopy, shields and seat belt for
wear or damage.
• MAKE SURE all protective devices operate correctly.
• CHECK that the articulation lock pin has been
removed from the articulation hinge and stored in the
articulation lock pin holder.
• CHECK that operator's seat is adjusted for
comfortable and safe operation of all controls.
• ALWAYS sit in the operator's seat with the seat belt
on before starting the motor grader. REMAIN seated
during operation.
