3. Disconnect battery clamps (Figure 5-7) starting
with the grounded (black) clamp first.
4. Make certain vent caps are tightly closed to prevent
solution from entering cells.
5. Remove terminal connections and wash with a stiff
wire brush (or battery service tool) and either an
ammonia solution or a solution consisting of 1/4 lb.
(0.11 kg) baking soda added to one quart of warm
water.
6. Clean terminals with solution and a stiff wire brush
or battery service tool.

After cleaning, pour clean water over battery,
connectors, and surrounding area to remove
solution.
8. Install and tighten battery clamps (Figure 5-7),
starting with positive (red) clamp first and grounded
(black) clamp last.
9. Attach battery box cover (Figure 5-7) and hook
battery box locks (Figure 5-7).
