Operation
Adjusting Engine for High
Elevation
Do not change engine settings to
compensate for elevation. An authorized
service dealer must service the injection
pump.
NOTE: Refer to the engine manufacturer's operation
and maintenance manual for information on
engine specifications and settings. See the
local authorized dealer for engine settings
and modifications.

DRIVING THE GRADER

Before driving on public roads, check state and local
laws that may apply to tractors, self-propelled machines,
and towed equipment. Additional lights, mirrors, SMV
(slow moving vehicle) emblems, or reflectors may be
required.

Grader Speeds

Slide throttle control lever (Figure 3-6) forward to HIGH
(
) position and push bottom of WORK/AUTO switch
(Figure 3-2,8) to AUTO to increase grader speeds.
Slide throttle control lever back to LO and push top
of WORK/AUTO switch to WORK to reduce grader
speeds.

Throttle Control

NOTE: The 695 Motor Grader hydraulic drive
system is designed to operate between 0 to
6000 PSI (0 to 414 Bar). When the hydraulic
operating pressure exceeds 6000 PSI (414
Bar), the relief valve remains open causing
excessive heat which results in damage and
wear.
The throttle control lever (optional) (Figure 3-4,12) is
located beside the operator's control panel. The lever is
used to control the speed (RPM) of the engine.
A tachometer (Figure 3-4,12) located on the operator's
control panel provides an indication of engine speed.
Push the throttle control lever (Figure 3-7) forward
to increase engine speed (RPM) and pull back to
decrease engine speed (RPM).

BRAKING

To brake, move the direction control lever (Figure 3-7)
to NEUTRAL (center) position.
Moving the direction control lever towards Neutral (N
position) reduces the ground speed of the grader.
The dynamic braking action brings the grader to a stop
when the control lever is moved to Neutral (N position).
This is the preferred method to slow down and stop the
motor grader.
NOTE: Check the parking brake daily to make sure it
is functioning properly.
NOTE: After using the parking brake for emergency
stopping, check the parking brake to make
sure it is functioning properly.

Emergency Stopping

Use service brake pedal only for
emergency stops or if there is insufficeint
dynamic braking power from the hydrostatic
drive.
1.
To stop in an emergency, move direction control
lever (Figure 3-7) to NEUTRAL.
2. Reduce engine speed to slow idle.
3. If vehicle is still moving, depress service brake pedal
(Figure 3-6) to apply service brake.
NOTE: After using the service brake pedal (Figure
3-6) for emergency stopping, check parking
brake operation (see Checking Parking Brake
on page 5-10).
4. As a last resort, if steps listed above fail and the
engine is running, lower components to the ground
to stop motor grader.

Parking Brake

A fail-safe hydraulic parking brake, mounted to the
right of the operator's seat, uses a knob to engage the

parking brake.

Pull the parking brake knob (Figure 3-8) up to engage
the parking brake.
Push the knob down to release the parking brake.
NOTE: Check the parking brake daily to make sure it
is functioning properly.
NOTE: After using the parking brake for emergency
stopping, check the parking brake to make
sure it is functioning properly.
