Maintenance
Refer to the engine manufacturer's operation and
maintenance manual for additional information on
engine service. Use manufacturer's recommendations
for engine oil and filter replacement.
NOTE: Fuel sulfur content should not exceed 0.5
percent. Refer to Cummins' Operation
and Maintenance Manual if sulfur content
exceeds 0.5 percent.
1.
BEFORE leaving operator's seat, refer to Preparing
Grader for Maintenance on page 5-8 and park the
grader.
2. Ensure the engine runs during preperation long
enough to warm oil to 140° F (60° C).
3. Place a container with a capacity of at least 15
quarts (20 liters), sufficient to hold the drained oil,
directly under the engine lubrication oil drain plug.
4. Remove the engine oil pan drain plug (Figure 5-12)
located underneath the grader.
5. Clean engine oil pan drain plug threading and
threading on the grader where plug attaches.
6. Drain oil into a suitable container.
7.
Dispose of oil properly in accordance with laws and
regulations.

8. Reinstall engine oil pan drain plug.
9. Clean the area surrounding filter and filter head.
10. Using an oil filter wrench, turn filter (Figure 5-13)
counterclockwise to remove.

11. Clean mounting surface.
12. Coat gasket surface of filter with clean oil. (15W-40)
13. Fill replacement filter with clean engine oil.
14. Apply thin layer of lubricating oil to gasket sealing
surface.
15. Install new filter. Turn filter clockwise until gasket
contacts mounting surface.
16. Tighten filter clockwise 3/4 to 1 additional turn.
17. Remove engine oil filler cap.
18. Fill engine with oil, 13.7 qt (12.96 L) with filter
19. Re-install filler cap.
NOTE: Before starting engine after a filter change,
disconnect fuel shut-off solenoid wire
and crank engine for 10 seconds to fill
filter element and pre-lube turbocharger if
equipped.
20. Turn ignition switch key (Figure 3-3) clockwise
to the ON position. If maintenance must be
performed with engine running, do not leave grader
unattended.
Monitor engine oil pressure gauge.
If oil pressure does not register within 15
seconds, turn off motor grader to avoid
damage. Check for proper oil level in the
pan.
21. Run engine at slow idle.
22. Check filter for leaks. Tighten or replace to stop
leaks.
