STORAGE

This section contains instructions to prepare the grader
for long-term storage. It also contains the procedures
necessary to inspect the graders monthly during

storage.

Preparing Grader For Long-Term
Storage
1.
Inspect the grader thoroughly and repair worn or
damaged parts.
2. Retract all hydraulic cylinders, if possible.
3. Shut down engine and remove ignition key.
4. Check air filter restriction gauge.
5. Clean air cleaner assembly and precleaner.
6. Replace air filter elements if restricted.
7.
Clean the grader.
8. Paint chipped or rusty areas to prevent rusting.
9. Replace worn or damaged decals.
10. Cover seat with plastic.
11. Place a "DO NOT OPERATE" tag on the steering
wheel.
NOTE: Some rust inhibitors can destroy painted
surfaces. Do not spray rust inhibitor on painted
surfaces.
12. Coat exposed cylinder rods with rust inhibitor.
13. Lubricate all grease points. Refer to Table 5-1.
14. Check engine oil level and fill as necessary.
15. Check hydraulic oil sight gauge and fill as
necessary.
16. Perform specific gravity test on engine coolant.
17. Drain and replace or fill coolant reservoir as needed
to prevent freeze damage.
18. If possible, raise and support grader with tires off
the ground, or park grader on a hard surface, to
prevent tires from freezing to ground.
19. Store grader in a dry, protected area.
20. If stored outside, cover with a waterproof material.
