Cold Weather Engine Start-up
(40°F or below):
1.
To start grader, insert key into ignition switch
(Figure 3-3) and turn clockwise to the RUN
position. The wait-to-start indicator light (Figure
4-3) will illuminate.
2. When wait-to-start indicator light (Figure 4-15)
turns off, turn key clockwise to START (
(Figure 4-3).
3. Release key as soon as engine starts.
Do not operate starter longer than
20 seconds. If engine does not start, allow
starter to cool for 2 to 3 minutes before
attempting to start engine.
4. Run engine for 30 seconds.
5. Check indicator and gauge operation.
6. Operate each of the motor grader's hydraulic functions
before moving grader.
NOTE: In cold weather, keep the fuel tank filled
to reduce the chances for condensation
and corrosion. Do not fill the fuel tank to
capacity. Leave room for fuel expansion.
In cold weather, it is extremely
important to allow engine and hydraulic oil to
warm up before activating components.
Using Booster Batteries - 12 Volt
System
Be sure to keep the battery fully
charged during cold weather to keep it from
freezing. Freezing temperatures have little
effect on a fully charged battery.
If a booster battery is necessary for cold weather
starting:
1.
Make sure the direction control lever (Figure 3-7) is
in NEUTRAL before using booster batteries to start
the engine.
2. Pull parking brake lever (Figure 3-8) up to apply
parking brake.

not allow vehicles to touch.
3. Connect the positive (+) end of the first jumper cable
to the positive (+) terminal of the dead battery and
the other positive end to the positive (+) terminal of
the booster battery.
4. Connect the negative (-) end of the second jumper
cable to the negative (-) terminal of the booster
battery and the other negative (-) end to the frame of
the grader with the dead battery.
5. Start motor grader engine.
6. After starting, remain in the operator's seat and have
a helper remove the jumper cables from the grader
by removing the negative (-) wire first.

Stopping the Engine

1.
Move grader to a level surface.
