About this task
Attention:
• Read "Installation Guidelines" on page 45

• Power off the server and peripheral devices and disconnect the power cords and all external cables. See
"Power off the server" on page
• If the server is installed in a rack, slide the server out on its rack slide rails to gain access to the top cover,
or remove the server from the rack. See
• To make sure that there is adequate system cooling, do not operate the solution for more than two
minutes without either a drive or a filler installed in each bay.
• If one or more EDSFF drives are to be removed, it is recommended to disable them beforehand via the
operating system.
• Before you remove or make changes to drives, drive controllers (including controllers that are integrated
on the system board assembly), drive backplanes or drive cables, back up all important data that is stored
on drives.
• Before you remove any component of a RAID array (drive, RAID card, etc.), back up all RAID configuration
information.

Procedure
Step 1. Make preparation for this task.
a. Remove the top cover. See
b. Remove all of the E1.S or E3.S hot-swap drives and the drive bay fillers (if any) from the drive
bays. See

c. Disconnect the power and signal cables from the E1.S or E3.S drive backplane.
Step 2. Remove the E1.S or E3.S drive cage assembly.
a. Pull out the plunger on the drive cage assembly.
b. Slide the drive cage assembly out of the chassis.
