Chapter 6: Installing and Removing Memory

About Origin200 Memory

Installing Memory

128
Observe these rules about installing DIMMs:
DIMMs must be installed in pairs.
Each DIMM of a pair must be the same size (for example, 32 MB, 64 MB, and so on).
You can mix memory sizes between banks. In other words, bank 1 can have a pair of
32 MB DIMMs while bank 2 has a pair of 64 MB DIMMs and bank 3 has another
pair of 32 MB DIMMs.
Each module must have memory installed (32 MB minimum per module).
Follow these steps to install memory in an Origin200 server.
1. Shut down the system completely. See "Turning Off the System" in Chapter 4.
Be sure to turn off the master power switch.
2. Prepare the system for servicing.
Disconnect any cables from the rear of the chassis.
If you have to move the system, you may find it easier to lift and carry if you
remove the disk drives first.
If the system is mounted in an equipment rack, remove it from the rack and
place it on a sturdy work surface. See "Removing a Server From an Equipment
Rack" in Chapter 3.
3. Open the system.
If the system is in a tower configuration, remove the side panel. See "Removing
the System Cover and Chassis Access Door" on page 118.
Remove the chassis access panel (tower and rack systems). See "Removing the
System Cover and Chassis Access Door" on page 118.
If the system is in a tower configuration, place it on its side on a sturdy work
surface.
