Chapter 2 User Configuration Interface

2.1 Setting up Configuration Environments

The system supports both local and remote configuration. The following subsections
tell you how to set up the configuration environments.

2.1.1 Setup through the Console Port

Step 1: To set up a local configuration environment, connect the serial port on a PC (or
terminal) to the console port on the router using a standard RS-232 cable, as shown in
Figure 2-1.

Step 2: Run the terminal emulation program (Win9X HyperTerminal for example) on the
PC, and set the terminal communication parameters as follows:
Bits per second: 9600
Data bits: 8
Stop bits: 1
Parity: None
Flow control: None
TermType: VT100
