Remove the cylinder head bolts (1, Figure 129)

Lift the cylinder head away from the cylinder block.
Discard the cylinder head gasket (2, Figure 129). Place
the cylinder head on the work bench to prevent damage to
the combustion surface.
Removal of Intake and Exhaust Valves
1.
Place the cylinder head on the work bench with the
combustion side down.
2.
Using the valve spring compressor tool, compress one of
the valve springs (Figure 130).
3.
Remove the valve keepers (1, Figure 131).
4.
Slowly release the tension on the valve spring.
5.
Remove the spring retainer (2, Figure 131), valve spring
(3, Figure 131).
6.
Repeat the procedure with all the remaining valves.
NOTE:
If the valves are to be reused, identify them so
they can be installed in their original location.
7.
Remove the injector nozzle protectors (6, Figure 131) and
the seats (7, Figure 131).
8.
Turn the cylinder head so the exhaust port side faces
down. Remove the intake and exhaust valves (5, Figure
131) from the cylinder head.
9.
Remove the valve stem seals (4, Figure 131).
