CAUTION
Incorrect use of the knee joint. Any sort of excessive strain or overloading or incorrect handling
can lead to defects and resulting malfunction of the 3WR95 Knee Joint, including loss of func-
tion due to structural failure.
This can cause the patient to fall.
The 3WR95 Knee Joint may also not be used for extreme activities such as extreme sports (wa-
ter skiing, kite surfing, etc.).
Careful handling of the prosthesis and its components not only increases their service life, but is
primarily in the interest of your own safety. If the prosthesis has been subjected to extreme loads
(e.g. by falling or the like), then it must be inspected by a prosthetist immediately for possible
damage. The contact person for this is the responsible prosthetist, who will send the prosthesis
to Ottobock Service if necessary.
CAUTION
Risk of pinching where the joint bends. Ensure that fingers and other body parts are not in
this area when bending the joint.

5 Preparation for use

5.1  Alignment/assembly
The three-dimensional alignment of the prosthesis socket and the modular components affects the
static and dynamic function of the prosthesis. The position of the axes affects the function of the joint.
The functions of the 3WR95 can only be put to optimal use if alignment was done correctly. The
residual limb position must be taken into account for positioning of the socket connection.
Plumb lines in the frontal and sagittal planes, which are marked during plaster casting and trial
fitting from the hip pivot point, simplify proper positioning of the lamination anchor or socket adapter.
Perform alignment in 2 steps:
1. First basic alignment is done using the alignment tool (e.g. 743L200 L.A.S.A.R. Assembly).
2. This is followed by static alignment optimisation using the 743L100 L.A.S.A.R. Posture.
5.1.1 Basic alignment using the alignment tool (Fig. 6)
1. Move the mid-foot forward approx. 30 mm relative to the alignment reference line.
2. Set the effective heel height of the foot and add 5 mm. Set the outer position of the foot.
3. Clamp the 3WR95 Knee Joint in place. For basic alignment, set the knee joint axis of rota-
tion (alignment reference point) 15 mm back from the alignment reference line. The joint
should be positioned horizontally at this time. Pay attention to the knee-ground distance and
the knee outer rotation (adapter inserts provide for a rotation of approx. 5°)! Recommended
position of the alignment reference point: 20 mm above the medial tibial plateau.
4. Use the tube adapter to connect the foot to the modular knee joint.
