INFORMATION
Please read these Instructions for Use carefully. Pay special attention to the safety instructions!
1.1  Function
The Aqua Knee is a knee joint component intended for use in waterproof walking devices and
can be used to walk and stand in wet areas. The upper and lower parts of the joint are made of
aluminium alloy and connected to one another by a specially designed axis. A small hydraulic unit
is integrated into the joint to control the swing phase. It generates dynamic resistance to move-
ment which optimises the gait pattern by preventing excessive swing through during flexion and
an excessively hard strike at the end of the extension phase.
The movement resistance (damping behaviour) can be controlled by changing the flow cross-
section. The flexion and extension movements can be adjusted independently.
• The control geometry of the hydraulics is designed to create a high flexion resistance even with
a high degree of flexion.
• A special feature of the hydraulics reduces the flexion angle at high walking speeds.
• The extension resistance can be set to a low value, since hydraulic end position damping en-
sures a soft transition to the elastic stop.
Unlike mechanical gait controllers, the hydraulics automatically adjust to different walking speeds
which results in harmonious motion. In the 3WR95, the flexion angle of approx. 135° is limited by
the stop of the modular adapter against the lower part of the joint (Fig. 1).
1.2  Combination possibilities
The 3WR95 Aqua Knee may only be used in combination with modular Ottobock components
for waterproof walking devices.
2 Application
2.1  Intended Use
The 3WR95 Aqua Knee with integrated miniature hydraulics is intended exclusively for the exo-
prosthetic fitting of the lower extremities.
2.2  Area of Application
The 3WR95 Knee Joint can be used for transfemoral amputees and patients with disarticulated
knees.
Approved for a body weight up to 150 kg (330 lbs).
