Generally, Vector Network Analyzer performs time domain transformation Measure through ration Measure. S
does not only indicate size of the reflected signal received by receiver A or B simply, but also indicates the Measure result of the ratio
between Measure receiver and reference receiver. In addition, S
very important to time domain Measure, since Measure reference plane is set through calibration and the calibrating point becomes
zero point of time axis X, all time and distance data take this point as a reference point, and both time and amplitude data are very
accurate through calibration.
8.2.Resolution and Range of Time Domain Measure
This section discusses how to observe all effective time domain data of the measured piece and how to set up the instrument to
obtain highest resolution and maximum Measure range.
8.2.1. Response Resolution
Time domain response resolution of the Analyzer refer to the capability of Analyzer to distinguish two adjacent responses. For
response of identical amplitudes, it equals to the pulse width of impulse response defined by 50% (6dB) amplitude point, or the rise
time of step response defined by 10%~90% amplitude point, shown as figure below:
Time domain response resolution is affected by factors below:

Frequency span
Figure below indicates the effect of frequency span toward response resolution:
Time domain Measure response under narrow frequency span is indicated as that impulse response pulses which shall be
independent from each other are overlapped.
When performing time domain Measure under broad frequency span, the Analyzer can distinguish different response pulses
