If new ETERNUS JX40 S2 storage modules should be added to the system, you have to
decide where to mount them. It is recommended to mount them at a stretch immediately
on top or immediately below the server. See section
page 77
and
When planning the mounting positions, consider the maximum length of the SAS
cables: The maximum length of the cable between the server and the first JX40 S2
module (JX40-1) is 3.5m and the cables between the JX40 S2 modules have a
maximum length of 1.1m.
Using longer cables may cause malfunction with a risk of data loss!
The procedure of storage expansion requires a reboot of the ETERNUS CS800 S6 to
integrate the new hardware. In general it is possible to connect the additional storage
modules and/or to plug in the additional disks while the system is operable. Nevertheless
to prevent from accidentally damaging the system it is recommended to shut down the
system before working on its hardware. Of course a shutdown is mandatory if the already
existing components must be disconnected or relocated for any reason.
Proceed as follows:
1. If an ETERNUS JX40 S2 storage module was delivered, label it with the always next
currently unused identifier, i.e. JX40-1, JX40-2 or JX40-3. The labeling positions are
shown by figure below.
