OIL COOLER & LINES
DESCRIPTION
Vehicles equipped with the Heavy Duty Cooling
option (Sales Code NMC) use an engine oil cooler
that is mounted inside the right radiator tank (Fig.
86). Oil lines connect the cooler to the engine.
OPERATION
Engine oil travels from the engine through the
supply line and into the cooler. The supply line is
connected to a control valve that allows engine oil
flow when pressure is above 138–207 kPa (20–30 psi)
and an internal orifice limits oil flow to a maximum
of 11.3 LPM (3 GPM). The engine oil exits the cooler
through the oil return line and is returned to the
engine oil pan (Fig. 87) .
REMOVAL
ENGINE OIL COOLER
(1) The engine oil cooler is serviced with the radi-
ator. (Refer to 7 - COOLING/ENGINE/RADIATOR -
REMOVAL)
COOLER LINES
(1) Disconnect cooler lines at radiator (Fig. 88).
NOTE: The quick connect feature of the cooler lines
are a one time assembly only design. To remove
cooler lines, unscrew the fittings from block and oil
pan.
(2) Disconnect lines at the engine block and oil
pan by unscrewing the fittings.
(3) Disconnect lines from support bracket and
retainer (Fig. 88)and (Fig. 89).
