helper-address

The helper-address interface configuration command enables forwarding User Datagram Protocol
(UDP) Broadcast packets received on an interface. To disable forwarding Broadcast packets to
specific addresses, use the no form of this command.
Syntax
helper-address address [udp-port-list]
no helper-address address
address—Destination Broadcast or host address used when forwarding UDP broadcasts.
udp-port-list—The Broadcast packet destination UDP port number to forward. If not
specified, packets for the default services are forwarded to the helper address.
Default Configuration
Broadcast packets forwarding to specific addresses is disabled.
If no UDP port number is specified, the device forwards UDP Broadcast packets for the
following six services:
IEN-116 Name Service (port 42)
DNS (port 53)
NetBIOS Name Server (port 137)
NetBIOS Datagram Server (port 138)
TACACS Server (port 49)
Time Service (port 37)

User Guidelines
Many helper addresses can be defined. The maximum number of address-port pairs is up to
128 for the whole device.
The helper-address interface configuration command forwards a specific UDP Broadcast
from one interface to another.
The helper-address interface configuration command specifies a UDP port number for which
UDP Broadcast packets with that destination port number are forwarded.
