To remove the light path diagnostics panel, which is shown in Figure 29 on page 66, complete the
following steps.
Note: See 7 in Figure 2 on page 12 for the location of the light path panel on the system board.
Procedure
1. Read the Safety topic and the "Installation guidelines" on page 29.
2. Shut down the operating system on all partitions of the compute node, turn off the compute node,
and remove the compute node from the IBM Flex System Enterprise Chassis. See "Removing the
compute node from an IBM Flex System Enterprise Chassis" on page 31.
3. Carefully lay the compute node on a flat, static-protective surface, with the cover side up.
4. Open and remove the compute node cover. See "Removing the compute node cover" on page 33.
5. Grasp the light path diagnostics panel by its pull tab (B) and pull it horizontally out of its bracket.
6. Disconnect the cable (A) from the system board. For best maneuverability, orient yourself in front of
the compute node. Use your index finger to reach under the cable connection and pull it up, as
shown in Figure 29 on page 66.
Note: You can use the system-board LEDs and the service label located on the inside of the cover to
identify the light path diagnostics panel that must be replaced. See "System-board LEDs" on page 13.
7. If you are instructed to return the light path diagnostics panel, follow all packaging instructions, and
use any packaging materials for shipping that are supplied to you.

Installing the light path diagnostics panel

You can install this tier 2 CRU, or you can request IBM to install it, at no additional charge, under the
type of warranty service that is designated for the compute node. Use this procedure to install the light
path diagnostics panel into the currently installed system board. If you are also installing a new system
board, you must complete this procedure before installing the new system board.
