1. Read the Safety topic and the "Installation guidelines" on page 29.
2. Shut down the operating system on all partitions of the compute node, turn off the compute node,
and remove the compute node from the IBM Flex System Enterprise Chassis. See "Removing the
compute node from an IBM Flex System Enterprise Chassis" on page 31.
3. Carefully lay the compute node on a flat, static-protective surface, with the cover side up.
4. Open and remove the compute node cover. See "Removing the compute node cover" on page 33.
5. Locate the connector for the drive.
Note: Although the SSD carrier and the HDD are two separately configured cards, the SSD carrier
case plugs in to the 2.5 inch SAS HDD connector.
6. If you are replacing an SSD carrier, continue to the next step. If you are installing a new SSD carrier,
remove the filler to vacate the space for the new SSD carrier:
a. Pull and hold the blue release lever at the front of the drive tray.
b. Slide the filler forward to disengage the connector.
c. Lift the filler out of the drive tray.
7. Remove the SSD carrier case that you want to replace from the drive tray. See "Removing a
solid-state drive carrier" on page 38.
8. Install SSDs into the new carrier case. See "Installing a SATA solid-state drive" on page 43.
9. Place the carrier case into the drive tray and push it toward the rear of the compute node, as
indicated in Figure 11 on page 40. When the SSD carrier moves past the lever at the front of the tray,
it snaps in place.
Attention: Do not press the top of the carrier case. Pressing the top might damage the drive.
10. Install and close the compute node cover. See "Installing and closing the compute node cover" on
page 34.
Statement 21
CAUTION:
Hazardous energy is present when the compute node is connected to the power source. Always
replace the compute node cover before you install the compute node.
11. Install the compute node into the IBM Flex System Enterprise Chassis. See "Installing the compute
node in an IBM Flex System Enterprise Chassis" on page 92.
12. If you replaced the part because of a service action, verify the repair by checking that the amber
enclosure fault LED is off. For more information, see "Compute node control panel button and
LEDs" on page 9.
