Usage Guidelines
To use the command, configure the switch for network (in-band) connection. The
source and target devices must have the ping utility enabled and running on top of
TCP/IP. The switch can be pinged from any IP workstation with which the switch is
connected through the default VLAN, as long as there is a physical path between
the switch and the workstation. The terminal interface sends three pings to the
target station.
You can utilize the ping command over the network port when using an IPv6 global
address ipv6-global-address | hostname. Any IPv6 global address or gateway
assignments to these interfaces will cause IPv6 routes to be installed within the IP
stack such that the ping request is routed out the network port properly.
Examples

(switch) #ping ipv6 3ffe:1900:4545:3:200:f8ff:fe21:67cf
