If the level is low, remove the surge tank cap as follows:
Cover the surge tank cap with a thick cloth. Turn the cap slowly anticlockwise and
remove.
Top up the surge tank with clean water to a little over the KALT / COLD level, indicated
by the arrow symbol
Install the cap and leave the engine idling for a few minutes.
If, after taking one or more of the above actions the temperature gauge no longer
signals an overheat condition you can resume driving at a reduced speed. Return to
normal driving after 10 minutes if the temperature gauge does not again show an
overheat condition.
If overheating occurs again you should have the vehicle attended to, as soon as
possible, by a qualified mechanic.
Note: With this type of sealed, pressurised cooling system, there should be very little
loss of coolant. If the surge tank is low, a leak is indicated. Therefore you should consult
your Holden Retailer as soon as possible to fix the leak.
The engine may temporarily operate at high temperatures during more demanding
operating conditions, especially on very hot days. These conditions include:
•
climbing a long hill
•
stopping immediately after high speed driving
•
idling for long periods in traffic
•
towing a heavily laden trailer or caravan.
You should avoid operating your vehicle for prolonged periods in any of the above
circumstances if the temperature gauge indicates a high engine coolant temperature.
Refer to Chapter 7 for maintenance instructions to help protect your cooling system
from overheating.
