DRIVING
Power steering
If the power steering is rendered ineffective because a fault has developed with the
power steering system, the vehicle can still be steered.
However, due to the much greater effort required to steer, it is recommended that you
have the problem fixed promptly.
Loose articles
Do not leave loose articles or luggage in the passenger compartment. Whenever
possible, loads stowed in the luggage compartment should be firmly secured. Refer to
Chapter 10.
WARNING:
Gas cylinders can leak, creating a risk of fire or explosion. As a precaution,
ensure adequate ventilation when carrying gas cylinders. They must be
restrained from rolling around, and where possible, placed in the load
area of the vehicle. It is recommended that if gas cylinders are frequently
transported that a purpose-built carrying compartment be used.
Transportation of gas cylinders is regulated by legislation in some states.
Tyre traction
A decrease in driving, cornering and braking traction occurs when water, snow, ice,
gravel or other materials are on the road surface. Driving practices and vehicle speed
should be adjusted to the road conditions.
Traction Control (if fitted)
Traction Control prevents the driving wheels from spinning. As soon as even one
driving wheel starts to spin, traction control reduces the power from the engine and
applies the brakes, as necessary. This can improve the vehicle's steering, particularly
on snow and ice, as well as on wet or slippery roads.
The traction control light on the instrument panel starts flashing when traction control
is controlling wheel spin, indicating that the vehicle is now in a critical situation. During
the control operation the engine power output is reduced and the sound of the engine
may change.
Traction control helps you to keep control of the vehicle and reminds you to match your
speed to the road conditions. However, DO NOT let this special safety feature tempt
you into taking risks when driving. Traffic safety can only be achieved by adopting a
responsible driving style.
To check that the bulbs are working, the warning light on the
instrument panel illuminates for a few seconds when the ignition
is switched on. If the warning light does not illuminate or if it
comes on during driving, a fault is indicated in the system and
traction control is no longer be operational. You should contact
your Holden Retailer.
