BRAKE AND AUTO TRANSMISSION FLUID LEVELS
Brake fluid level
The brake fluid in the master cylinder should be checked weekly. The master cylinder
is located in the engine bay, on the driver's side of the vehicle.
The fluid level, visible in the see-through
master cylinder when standing at the
driver's side of the vehicle, should be
maintained between the MIN and MAX
level markings shown on the side of the
master cylinder.
If the fluid is between these levels do not
remove the master cylinder cap.
Remember that brake fluid exposed to the
atmosphere will quickly absorb moisture,
which in turn lowers the boiling point of the
fluid as well as increasing risk of corrosion
of brake components.
WARNING:
Brake fluid is poisonous and corrosive. It will damage the paint finish of your
vehicle if spilt. If spillage occurs on vehicle body, remove by pouring water
over affected area as soon as possible.
If fluid needs to be added, firstly, raise the
plastic master cylinder cover (the engine
compartment weather seal will have to be
pulled towards the front of the vehicle to
allow the cover to be raised). Secondly,
clean around the filler cap. Finally, top up
the master cylinder reservoir with heavy
duty brake fluid which meets Holden
specifications. Refer to Chapter 8 for brake
fluid details.
Remember to secure the cap and clean
up any spilt fluid.
Note: Use only new brake fluid. Use of old,
used or inferior brake fluid may endanger
the functioning of the brake system.
If the master cylinder requires constant topping up, it could indicate that a malfunction
exists and you should immediately consult your Holden Retailer.
Automatic transmission (if fitted) fluid level
The fluid level for automatic transmission will be checked for you when your vehicle
is taken to your Holden Retailer for servicing, refer to Chapter 12. The automatic
transmission fluid level does not require checking by the driver in between these
scheduled services.
