Chapter 4
4-2
DRIVING
1. Apply the park brake firmly and release only after you have started the engine and
are ready to drive off.
2. MANUAL: Press the clutch pedal and shift the gear lever to N (neutral) position. The
clutch pedal can now be released.
AUTOMATIC: Move the gear lever to P (park) or N (neutral) position to start the
engine. Note: To move the gear lever away from the P position, the ignition must be
switched on and the brake pedal pressed.
3. For cold and hot conditions, start the
engine as follows:
Note: Do not press the accelerator pedal
prior to or during starting. This increases
cranking time and inhibits engine
starting.
Turn the key to the start position and
release it when the engine starts.
If the engine does not start and the check
engine warning light (A) on the instrument
panel flashes, turn the ignition off for atleast
2 seconds before attempting to start the
engine again.
If the engine fails to start, consult a Holden
Retailer.
Running-in (for the first 1000 km)
Drive your vehicle at various speeds. Do not use full throttle and never allow the
engine to labour.
Make good use of all gears. Press the accelerator pedal to a maximum of three
quarters of the available pedal travel in all gears and drive ranges.
Unless necessary, try not to brake too hard during the first 200 km or after new brake
pads have been fitted.
Switching off the engine
If the engine temperature is very high, for example after driving in hilly areas, allow the
engine to idle for approximately 2 minutes before switching it off (in order to prevent
heat accumulation).
