EMERGENCIES
Proper lifting or towing equipment is necessary to prevent damage during any towing
operations. Follow state and local laws. In an emergency, your vehicle may be towed
on all four wheels in the following manner:
Remove the towing eye hole cover
(located at the front, driver's side of the
vehicle) by pressing the lower edge of
the cover then pulling it outwards.
The towing eye is located with the jack
and tools (Barina – beneath the spare
wheel in the load area, Combo – behind
the driver's seat).
Screw in the towing eye anticlockwise
as far as it will go and use the wheel bolt
wrench to tighten it until it is horizontal.
Attach a tow rope to the eye. Do not
attach it to the bumpers, brackets or any
other part of the vehicle.
Place the transmission in neutral (N)
and release the park brake.
Switch the ignition to position ll (ON).
This frees the steering lock and allows
the correct operation of the windscreen
wipers, horn and turn signals.
For safety and to prevent damage to the
vehicle, avoid jerky movements and
drive slowly during towing operations.
Remember that power assist for brakes
and power steering is not available when
the engine is off. Therefore, more effort
is required to brake and steer.
To prevent the entry of exhaust fumes
from the towing vehicle into the
passenger compartment of your vehicle,
close the windows and move the heating
and ventilation controls to the recirculate
position.
Vehicles
fitted
transmissions should only be towed
facing forwards and must not be towed
for more than 100 km or over 80 km/h.
If the transmission is defective or if the
above speed or distance is to be
exceeded, the front of the vehicle must
be raised.
Only the driver should be in a towed
vehicle.
