Chapter 4
4-4
DRIVING
This system has 5 forward gears and a
reverse gear. The shift pattern illustrated,
is found on the top of the gear shift lever.
When selecting fifth gear you must shift
the gear lever sideways against light spring
pressure in order to pass into the gear.
To select reverse gear, lift the ring beneath
the knob on the gear shift lever and move
the lever into the reverse position.
If the gear does not engage easily, then
release and press the clutch pedal, or try
moving to another gear, before trying again.
Shift speeds
The chart shows the recommended speeds at which gear changes should be made for
normal driving. Using shift speeds in the 'economy' category will assist in maximising
fuel economy.
Upshifting at higher road speeds may be necessary according to varying driving
conditions such as load, road gradient, during overtaking and when other than light
acceleration is required.
