The vehicle is designed primarily as a passenger vehicle, so handling, durability and economy may be affected by towing a trailer. Your Holden Dealer will help supply and install towing equipment to suit your requirements. Trailer towing 3 141.
Page 143
Never exceed the loads given for the towing equipment fitted to the vehicle. For your safety and the vehicle's durability, all mandatory equipment must be fitted. Otherwise you may void the New Vehicle Warranty, to the extent that Holden considers the overloading or missing equipment to have affected the specifications or quality of the vehicle.
Page 144
Holden towing equipment is recommended where it is available. Where it is not available, no recommendation is made as to the make of equipment to be used. Holden will not accept liability for defects occurring in inappropriate towing equipment, for defects in the vehicle arising from the use of such equipment or for loss or injury caused by use of such equipment.
Page 145
Driving and operating Recommended procedure for attaching a trailer When a trailer is hitched to the vehicle, it places a weight on the tow bar. This weight is called the 'tow ball load'. If the tow ball load is too light or too heavy, the steering and handling of the vehicle may be affected. As a general guideline, for single axle trailers, the ball load should be approximately 10% of the loaded trailer mass.
Page 146
Driving and operating If the attitude of the vehicle is compromised, adjust the vehicle and trailer load within the specifications to improve the attitude. If the vehicle's attitude cannot be corrected, use a load distribution hitch. Note At no time may the maximum towing capacity exceed the maximums specified. Refer to Maximum towing capacity previously in this chapter.
Page 147
Remember that bull bars may affect airbag operation. Running in before towing Holden recommends that you drive your new vehicle for at least 1,500 km before towing. If you must tow in the first 1,500 km of the vehicle's life, do not exceed 80 km/h.
Page 148
Driving and operating Vehicle maintenance More frequent vehicle maintenance is required when using the vehicle for towing. Refer to the Service/Warranty Booklet in the vehicle's glovebox.
