Tyre replacement and repair
WARNING:
Do not mix different tyre construction types, such as radial and cross ply,
on your vehicle except in emergencies, because your vehicle's handling
could be affected and may result in loss of control.
When replacing tyres you should use the same size, load rating and construction type
as the original tyres on your vehicle. Refer to the tyre placard on your vehicle for tyre
size and load rating. Using a different size or type of tyre may affect such things as
ride, handling, speedometer / odometer calibration, ground clearance and tyre
clearance to the body or the chassis.
Tyres with a higher speed rating and / or maximum load rating in excess of that listed
are also acceptable as replacements provided they are fitted to a suitable rim size.
New tyres should be fitted in pairs to the front. If replacing only one tyre, it should be
paired on the same axle with the least worn of the other three.
You should replace your tyres when:
The tyres are worn to the point where
the tread wear indicators, as shown,
appear or the cord or fabric is showing.
The tread or side wall is cut, split, or
cracked deep enough to expose the
cord or fabric.
The tyre has a bump or bulge in it,
indicating some kind of internal
damage.
The tyre has a puncture, cut or other
damage which cannot be repaired
because of the size or location of the
damage.
If in doubt about the extent of damage to the tyre, have it removed from the wheel and
examined by a tyre specialist.
If a pressure loss occurs while driving, do not attempt to drive on the deflated tyre more
than is necessary to stop safely. Driving even a short distance on a deflated tyre can
damage it and the wheel beyond repair.
When an object which has punctured the tyre is removed, repairs are to be made in
accordance with the tyre manufacturer's recommendations.
WARNING:
Tyres which have been retreaded or improperly repaired cannot be operated
safely at high speeds. Therefore, their use is not recommended.
