From the Power-Save drop-down menu, select the period the instrument should stay
powered after a measurement has stopped.
The analog circuitry, including power to the preamplifier, shuts down when the instrument
is stopped for the period you chose. Performing a calibration, a reset, or starting a
measurement restores power. The meter can run the measurement after a short 10 second
power-up.
On your 831C, go to Tools
until the Power tab displays.
Backlights On is the duration the 831C display is back lit after the last key press. Selecting
Always slightly increases power consumption.

The blue LEDs under the keypad can be enabled or disabled according to your preference.
The Red LED behind the STOP/STORE button, and the green LEDs under the RUN/PAUSE
and ON/OFF buttons are always enabled.
Increasing the back light brightness significantly increases the meter's power

consumption, which decreases battery life.
Additionally, you can select the LCD screen back light intensity as a percentage.
When battery life is below 10%, the 831C overrides this setting and downgrades the LCD
Brightness to 50%. If the user-defined setting is below 50% brightness, it remains the
