Using Continuous Run Mode
The meter runs when you press the Run/Pause button

a.
Select Continuous as the Run Mode.

Select the Auto-Store period, and enter the Time of day to store in hours,
minutes, and seconds.

If your preamplifier is equipped for a calibration check, select the checkbox in-
line with Cal. Check, and enter a time of day in the Time field in hh:mm:ss
format.
d.
If you select the checkbox in-line with Enable FFT History, FFTS in Average is
the number of averages the meter calculates. Refer to the standard you're using
for specifics on the number of averages required for your measurement. The
default value is 1 and the max value is 99,999.
e.
The value you set for Time (in hours, minutes, and seconds) is the length of
each FFT history record.
Using Single-Block Timer Mode
The measurement begins at the Start date and time and ends at the End date and time
you set.
a.
Select Single Block Timer as the Run Mode.
b.
For the measurement, enter a Start date and time and an End date and time.
c.
Enter values for the next 3 settings if you plan to use FFT History (time history).
Select the mark in-line with either FFTs in Average or Time as the method of
determining the length of each record, then enter a value.
d.
If desired, select the checkbox in-line with Enable FFT History.
• If you selected FFTs in Average, the Estimate box, outlined in green, shows
the estimated measurement time needed to create that number of aver-
ages.
• If you selected Time, The FFTs in Avg box, outlined in green, shows the
number of averages that will be created during the measurement Time
you entered.
Step 13.
(Optional) The Run on Trigger feature enables the 831C to begin a
measurement when the area sound level exceeds one or more of the selected
levels. If you want the meter to begin a measurement based on a trigger level,
do the following:
a.
Return to the Control tab (
the Run Mode drop-down menu.

Return to the FFT Misc tab (
If your connected transducer is anything other than a microphone, only

available.
