9.4.2 Setting Auto-Off
SoundAdvisor Model 831C
On your 831C, go to Tools
the Power tab displays.
When changing batteries, the Battery Type must match the type of batteries you're
installing. The 831C can be powered by alkaline, 1.5V lithium, or nickel-metal hydride
(NiMH) batteries.
Do not mix alkaline and NiMH batteries.
CAUTION
Do not mix batteries from different manufacturers.
CAUTION
Do not replace only 1, 2, or 3 batteries. Replace all 4 batteries when installing
CAUTION
fresh cells.
Do not change the batteries without also setting the Battery Type (as shown in
CAUTION
this section). To prevent serious damage, injury, or fire, edit the Battery Type setting each
time you install a different type of battery. When the battery type is set to NiMH, the inter-
nal charger is enabled. This can result in fire or injury with alkaline or lithium batteries.
Step 1.
On your 831C, go to Tools
Step 2.
Press the right softkey
Step 3.
Select the Battery Type that matches the batteries you're installing.
Step 4.
Install 4 new batteries. For details, see 2.2.1 "Using Battery Power" on page 11.
Step 5.
If you've installed NiMH batteries and want to charge them in the meter, enable
the Charging feature.
Enabling Charging for NiMH Batteries

From the Charge drop-down, select On.

Use the included USB cable to connect to a wall outlet. For best results, turn the
meter off while charging.
