Y-Axis Shaft Lubricating Procedure

Abbott VP 2000™ Processor Service Manual
30-608308/R1—September 2008
WARNING: Always disconnect the system power at the
plug to the wall socket before beginning disassembly of
the unit.
1. Remove the hoods by gently squeezing inward on the two
(2) metal arms that connect the hoods to the unit.
2. Remove the Top Cover by unscrewing six (6) 6-32 x 1/4
Phillips-Head screws, three (3) on each side.
3. Position the slide stainer for access to the rear.
4. Rotate the Y-Drive Pulley (large black pulley)
counter-clockwise to lower the Robotic Arm.
5. When the Robotic Arm at the lower-most position, clean
the Y-Axis Shaft (lead screw) with alcohol using a stiff
brush (not a wire brush). Do not saturate the brush.
6. Run the Robotic Arm up and down several times, cleaning
the shaft each time.
7. Apply a liberal amount of lubricant to the shaft. Looking
from the top of the X/Y Table along side the large black
pulley you are able to gain access to the uppermost part of
the shaft and the top of the lead nut as the table moves
upward. Do not get any lubricant on the lead nut, as this
may cause damage to the lead nut. Clean and apply
lubricant in this area as well.
8. Once the X/Y Table is lubricated, run up and down a few
more times. Heavy finger pressure applied to the Robotic
Arm should not stop the Y-Table from moving upward.
9. Rotate the Y-Drive Pulley clockwise a few turns.
10. Re-install the Top Cover.
11. Re-install the Hoods on the correct sides.
12. Plug in the system to AC power.
