Carbon Filter System Maintenance

Abbott VP 2000™ Processor Service Manual
30-608308/R1—September 2008
For all systems that do not have a serial number on the filter
housing requires the following procedures:
Replacing the Charcoal Cassette
Oiling the Blower Fan
Filter Systems that have a serial number assigned to the
housing will not require Oiling of the Blower Fan due to
improved lubrication components in the bearing assemblies.
Replacing the Charcoal Cassette
NOTE: After extended use, the surface of the activated
carbon in the Filter Cassette will become saturated and
will no longer effectively remove reagents from the
exhaust. The useful life of the activated carbon in the
Filter Cassette will vary depending on the laboratory
conditions. Standard laboratory procedures should be
used to determine when the output from the Filter
System contains higher than acceptable concentration
of reagents for the particular laboratory.
WARNING: After use, the activated carbon in the
cassette will have various amounts of the reagent used
in the slide processor absorbed on its surface, and the
cardboard cassette may be impregnated with such
chemicals. The used, contaminated carbon and cassette
must be handled and disposed of only in accordance
with the laboratories hazardous and waste management
requirements for those materials.
CAUTION: Use only Abbott Filter Cassette with the
Abbott Carbon Filter System. Use of any other cassette
of activated carbon not supplied by or authorized by
Abbott Molecular may result in inadequate operation
and filtering and may damage or reduce the useful life
of the system.
Replace the Charcoal Cassette (PN 30-144156) inside the filter
unit on an annual basis, or as needed, depending upon
environmental conditions and types of reagents used in the
Abbott VP 2000 Processor.
