Other Trunk Group Functions and Settings

Name of the trunk group
"Name" is used to assign a name to each trunk group. The name's main purpose
is to provide orientation. It is displayed on some system terminals whenever an
outgoing connection is set up
Tip:
It is a good idea to name trunk groups according to the origin of their
lines (e.g. "Public ISDN", "Analogue", "Leased Line Geneva", etc.). This
ensures greater clarity during configuration work.
Generating a Ring-back Tone
The system can use the settings "Ring-back tone on caller's side" and "Ring-back
tone on ringing side" to control with certain limits the generation of the ring-back
tone on digital trunk connections. In normal PBX operation, both as a stand-alone
PBX and as a PINX, these settings do not have to be modified. Here are two appli-
cations in which the settings do have to be adapted:
• If the system is operated with an IPI card, you need to select the setting "Ring-
back tone on ringing side=yes" for the trunk group that contains the trunk
connections of the IPI card.
• If the system is permanently networked with a third-party PINX via the DSS1
protocol and if the third-party PINX does not generate its own ring-back tone,
you need to select the setting "Ring-back tone on caller's side".
Note:
If several PINXs are cascaded, generate the ring-back tone only once
whenever possible and as close to the called party as possible.
Rerouting in the Exchange
The "Rerouting in the exchange" setting can be used to specify whether the sys-
tem is authorized to place exchange-to-exchange connections to the exchange via
the trunk group's exchange lines. If the exchange lines of two trunk groups are
involved, this connection privilege must be granted to both trunk groups (see
Page 2.181 for more details).
This setting is possible only for trunk groups with protocol = DSS1.
