By using the IPI-100BT expansion card the customer has the possibility of capital-
izing on the resources of his existing intranet (LAN / WAN) to implement a cost-
saving extension of his internal phone network.
The IPI-100BT expansion card is used for two applications:
• NoIP: Networking of PINX via the LAN / WAN
(see AIP 6400 System Manual)
• VoIP: Voice connection between PBX subscribers and subscribers in the
LAN / WAN
Data services such as remote maintenance, fax group 3 / group 4 and modem
operation are not possible with the Ethernet interface on the expansion card.
6.1

Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP)

The LAN / WAN must be based on the Internet Protocol (IP). Signalling and voice
data are converted during the transition from the telephony network to the LAN
and sent in IP data packets to the IP terminal of the call party. In the reverse direc-
tion, the IP data packets sent to the PBX subscriber are converted into signalling
and voice data of the PBX. Voice transmission in the IP data network is referred to
as VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol).
The telephony terminals on the LAN consist either of PCs with the corresponding
telephony equipment (PC phone) or voice-compatible terminals with direct LAN
connection (IP phones). In the following, the internal subscribers in the LAN are
designated as IP subscribers.
Conventional terminal types (analogue, ISDN, AD2) can be used on the PBX side.
In the following, the internal subscribers on the PBX are designated as PBX sub-
scribers.
