DESCRIPTION
The BOSCH alternator regulator
is a single element electro-mechanical
voltage regulator only (Fig. 26).
Because of the inherent current
control of an alternator caused by the
inductive reactance of the stator no
current limiter
is
required and as
the rectifier diodes prevent reverse
current flow from the battery no
cut-out is required
either.
The voltage regulator is a double
contact vibrating unit
incorporating
a positive temperature co-efficient
resistor.
An electro-magnet attracting the
armature blade against spring tension
provides the voltage control.
A wire wound choke is used in the
field circuit to smooth out voltage
surge and prolong point
life.
OPERATION
There are three phases of opera-
tion of the voltage
regulator.
