Availability
G protection is an alternative to Gext protection on Ekip Touch, Ekip Hi-Touch and Ekip G Touch trip units
(enabling the presence of the SGR external toroid for the display of Gext protection), while both protections
are available on Ekip G Hi-Touch trip units.
Enabling parameters
Parameters to enable the external toroid presence in the relevant menu:
Parameter
Description
External
It allows the presence of the SGR external toroid to be activated
Toroid
It allows you to select the reference current of the protection among four available sizes.
NOTE: the menu is available after the presence of the SGR external toroid has been
enabled
Toroid size
IMPORTANT: the current selected from the menu must be consistent with
the size of the SGR external toroid connected to the protection trip unit.
Protection parameters
The following is a description of the protection parameters:
Parameter
Description
To activate/deactivate the protection.
Enable
IMPORTANT: the protection is inhibited automatically by the protection trip
unit if the absence of the SGR external toroid is detected
It determines the dynamic of the curve and the tripping time, fixed or dynamic according
to the selection:
• t = k (ANSI 50GTD): fixed time trip.
Curve
• t = k / I
(ANSI 51G): inverse time tripping.
2
The calculation of the tripping time of the inverse time curve is based on a mathematical
expression. The details provided in the table on page 104.
The value I41 contributes to calculate the tripping time, and also defines the current value
that, if exceeded, activates the protection.
Threshold I41
It is represented both as an absolute value (Amperes) and as a relative value (In, nominal
value defined by the size of the SGR external toroid).
The selected function determines the contribution of t41:
• t = k: t41 is the delay time between the exceeding of the I41 threshold and the sending
Time t41
of the opening command.
• t = k / I
: t41 contributes to calculate the tripping time.
2
The prealarm of the Gext protection indicates that the current measured is close to the
tripping threshold of the protection.
The prealarm state is activated for currents higher than a threshold that can be set by the
I41 Prealarm
user, and is deactivated in two cases:
Threshold
• Detected current lower than the prealarm threshold.
• Detected current higher than the protection tripping threshold.
A value within the 50 % ... 90 % range can be entered, with 1 % steps.
Additional functions
Gext protection has Enable Trip, Zone Selectivity, Enable StartUp, see page 72.
Via Ekip Connect it is also possible to access the blocking functions, see page 72.
