Compatibility and extension of the function
With SACE Emax 2 circuit-breakers, Zone Selectivity can be implemented:
• If the circuit-breakers are equipped with Ekip LCD or Touch trip units (including Hi-, G, and G Hi- trip units).
• Besides S, G and D protections (through wiring), also for S2 and Gext protections by using communication
via Link Bus between trip units equipped with Ekip Link modules.
NOTE: for details on how to associate trip units connected to the same Link Bus, see the
chapter "14 - Ekip Link module".
Then:
• Zone Selectivity via wiring is referred to as hardware selectivity, while Zone Selectivity via Link Bus is
referred to as logic selectivity.
• Directional Zone Selectivity can also be implemented without disabling S and G protections.
• Hardware selectivity continues to work as described in the previous paragraph and independently from
logical selectivity.
Logic selectivity: setting
For each protection for which you wish to implement Zone Selectivity, you must set the function enabling
among the available parameters. Then, in addition to these parameters, the selectivity time is also activated
for the setting.
Otherwise, Zone Selectivity can only be set up via the Ekip Connect software (see the chapter "16 - Other
accessories", and the paragraph "Ekip Connect software"). Specifically:
• Logic selectivity can be implemented for a maximum of 12 of the 15 actors (trip units) that can be associated
to the trip unit via Link Bus (see the chapter "14 - Ekip Link module").
• In the Ekip Link Configuration page, you need to choose hardware-only selectivity or mixed selectivity
(hardware and logic).
• For each actor associated to the trip unit via Link Bus and for which you want to enable Logic Selectivity,
the function must be enabled (the value "True" must be assigned to the Selectivity Actor parameter).
• In the Ekip Link Enhanced Selectivity page, for each actor associated for Zone Selectivity, and for each
protection of the trip unit that can be blocked (S, G, D-Forward, D-Backward, S2 and Gext, for example
S), the protections of the actor that you want to act as locks must be selected through a mask (example:
for actor 1, the protections S2 and Gext).
• Then, if the function is enabled for S protection and S protection is in a state of alarm, the S/D-Forward
hardware blocking signal in output and the logical selectivity bit S are activated. In addition, with reference
to the example in question, if the S/D-Forward hardware blocking signal in input and the S2 and Gext
logical selectivity bit of actor 1 are not active, the circuit-breaker is opened according to the selectivity
time set for the S protection; on the other hand, if the S/D-Forward hardware blocking signal is active in
input, or mixed selectivity is selected and the S2 or Gext logic selectivity bit of actor 1 are active, a time
is waited equal to the tripping time of S protection (and the circuit-breaker is open only if protection S is
still in an alarm state after this time has elapsed).
NOTE: the output and input logical selectivity bits are those in the data packets shared by
the trip units via Link Bus.
IMPORTANT: if hardware-only selectivity is selected, the logical selectivity bits are
ignored in input, but they are however activated in output.
NOTE: the S/D-Forward (G/D-Backward) hardware output is activated only if the protections
S or D-Forward (G or D-Backward) are in alarm, and the S/D-Forward (G/D-Backward)
hardware input acts as a block only for the protections S and D-Forward (G and D-Backward),
regardless of whether hardware-only or mixed selectivity is selected.
