Step 2.
Turn off the server (see "Turning off the server" on page 24) and all attached peripheral devices.
Disconnect all power cords; then, disconnect all external cables as necessary to replace the
device.
Step 3.
Carefully turn the server on its side so that it is lying flat, with the cover facing up.
Attention: Do not allow the server to fall over.
Step 4.
Unlock and remove the left-side cover (see "Removing the left-side cover" on page 193).
Step 5.
Remove the air baffle (see "Removing the air baffle" on page 195.
Step 6.
Disconnect the fan power cable from the system board (see "Fan Power Cable Connection" on
page 191 and "Internal Cable Routing and Connectors" on page 172).
Step 7.
Press the fan release latch to slightly move the fan assembly backward. (see step 1 and 2 of the
following illustration).
Step 8.
Lift the fan out of the server (see step 3 of the following illustration).
Replacing the fan assembly
Use this information to replace the fan assembly.
To replace the fan assembly, complete the following steps:
