In principle it is also possible to operate the unit using conven-
tional batteries – in this case, however, they must never be
used in combination with the mains adapter. The charging
process would start automatically as soon as the colorimeter is
connected to the mains power supply. Conventional batteries
are destroyed by the charging current, resulting in severe dam-
age to the unit. This also involves the risk of fire and explosion.
To protect the connection terminals on the unit from damage
(e.g. corrosion) due to environmental influences such as e.g.
dust or water splashes, the supplied protective caps should be
attached over the connection points (D) when these are not
being used.
