M2M Cellular Gateway
5.d.3 Virtual COM
Create a virtual COM port on user's PC/Host to provide access to serial device connected to serial
port on AMIT IOG gateway. Therefore, users can access, control, and manage serial devices through
Internet (fixed line, or cellular network) anywhere. This application is often known as Ethernet pass‐
through communication. There are four modes for virtual com connection: TCP Client, TCP Server, UDP,
and RFC2217.
In "Virtual COM" page, there are two configuration windows for the virtual COM function. The
"Configuration" window can let you specify the operation mode.
When "TCP Client" mode is selected, there are three more configuration parameters need to
specify. They are the connection control, the connection idle timeout and the alive check timeout. In
the "TCP Client" mode, there is another "Legal IP/FQDN Definition (TCP Client)" window can let you
define four hosts as TCP servers to receive the serial data from the gateway via a TCP connection,
including the host IP address and the service port for these TCP servers.
However, when the "TCP Server" mode is selected for the virtual COM function, there are six more
configuration parameters need to specify. They are the WAN interface, the listen port, the trust type to
allow all remote client hosts to connect to the TCP server or allow only 4 client hosts to connect, the
maximum number of TCP connections, the connection idle timeout and the alive check timeout. In the
"TCP Server" mode, there is another "Trusted IP Definition" window can let you define four hosts as
Index skipping is used to reserve slots for new function insertion, when required.
