CHAPTER 4.

1.Put identifying marks 1 on the brackets
for reassembly as shown.
2.Remove:
Bolts 2
3.Remove:
Armature 1
Yoke 2
Brush 3

Inspection and repair
1.Inspect:
Commutator
2.Measure:
Commutator diameter a
Out of specification → Replace the starter
motor.
3.Measure:
Mica undercut b
Out of specification → Scrape the mica to
proper value using a hacksaw blade
ground to fit.

27 mm (1.06 in)
Mica undercut:
0.7 mm (0.028 in)
