CLEANING
Be sure mating surfaces of timing chain cover and
cylinder block are clean and free from burrs.
INSTALLATION
(1) Lubricate the pump rotors using petroleum
jelly or lubriplate and install in the timing chain
cover (Fig. 9)

PETROLEUM JELLY
OR LUBER PLATE

(2) Using a new cover gasket, carefully install tim­
ing chain cover to avoid damaging oil pan gasket.
Use a small amount of Mopar® Silicone Rubber Ad­
hesive Sealant, or equivalent, at the joint between
timing chain cover gasket and the oil pan gasket.
Finger tighten the timing chain cover bolts at this
time.
(3) Tighten timing chain cover bolts to 47 N-m (35
ft. lbs.) torque. Tighten oil pan bolts to 24 N-m (215
in. lbs.) torque.
(4) Install pulley/vibration damper use tool C-3688
(Fig.10)

(5) Prime oil pump by squirt oil in the oil filter
mounting hole and filling the J-trap of the front tim­
ing cover. When oil is running out, install oil filter
that has been filled with oil.
(6) Install water pump and housing assembly us­
ing o-ring (refer to Group 7, Cooling System). Tighten
bolts to 41 N-m (30 ft. lbs.) torque.
(7) Install generator, air pump, and bracket assem­
bly.
(8) Install A/C compressor.
(9) Install the cooling system fan. Tighten the bolts
to 23 N-m (17 ft. lbs.) torque.
(10) Position the fan shroud and install the bolts.
Tighten the bolts to 11 N-m (95 in. lbs.) torque.
(11) Install the serpentine belt (refer to Group 7,
Cooling System).
(12) Fill cooling system (refer to Group 7, Cooling
System for the proper procedure).
(13) Connect the negative cable to the battery.
(14) Road test vehicle and check for leaks.

(1) Disconnect the negative cable from the battery.
(2) Remove the cooling fan and shroud.
(3) Remove the serpentine belt (refer to Group 7,
Cooling Systems).
