Adjusting the pilot screw

1. Adjust the throttle stop screw.
NOTE:
If the carburetor was disassembled, turn the
throttle stop screw in until it contacts the car-
buretor throttle lever, and then turn it in about
1 3/4 turns to tighten it temporarily.
2. Start the engine and warm it up for 10
minutes.
NOTE:
• Because the Prime Start operates when the
engine is started, the engine idle speed will
be above specification. Therefore, check
and adjust the engine idle speed after the
engine has been warmed up.
• If the engine idle speed does not decrease
after the engine has been warmed up for 10
minutes or more, check the Prime Start
system as it may be malfunctioning.
3. Attach the special service tool to spark
plug wire #1.
Digital tachometer: 90890-06760
4. Turn the pilot screw 1 in direction a
until it is lightly seated, and then turn it in
direction b the specified number of
turns.

NOTE:
Adjust the pilot screw setting within the spec-
ified number of turns out so that the engine
idle speed is stable.
Pilot screw adjusting tool 2 (for
Europe): 90890-03154
Pilot screw setting:
15: 1 ± 1/2 turns out
20: 3 1/2 ± 1/2 turns out (6AH10)
5. Turn the throttle stop screw 3 in direc-
tion c or d until the specified engine
idle speed is obtained.
