NOTE:
To adjust the shift rod adjusting nut 1, see
"Installing the lower unit" (6-17).
2. Turn the throttle grip to the fully closed
position so that the throttle cam is in posi-
tion a, and then check that the shift
stopper 2 is pulled in to position b and
that the shift lever can be operated. Next,
turn the throttle grip to the fully open
position so that the throttle cam is in posi-
tion c, and then check that the shift
stopper 2 is pushed out to position d
and that the shift lever cannot be oper-
ated.

Checking the gear shift operation
(remote control model)
1. Check that the gear shift operates
smoothly when the remote control lever
is shifted from neutral position to forward
or reverse. Adjust the shift cable length
and shift rod adjusting nut if necessary.
2. Set the remote control lever to the neu-
tral position.
3. Loosen the locknut 1, remove the clip
2, and then disconnect the shift cable
joint 3.

4. Adjust the position of the shift cable joint
until its hole is aligned with the set pin on
the shift rod lever joint.

WARNING
The shift cable joint must be screwed in a
minimum of 8.0 mm (0.31 in) a.
5. Connect the shift cable joint 3, install the
clip 2, and then tighten the locknut 1.
