RECOIL STARTER

The 5 - 40 engines have neutral start mechanism
(start-in-gear protection) attached to the recoil
starter. This feature disables the engine from
starting while in gear (forward or reverse). During
reassembly of the engine following repair, ensure
that you DO NOT DISABLE THE START-IN-GEAR
PROTECTION.
Ignition system must be disabled to prevent
accidental engine startup during servicing of the
recoil starter.
