RLE
If this parameter is enabled, the 9160 G2 uses run-length encoding (RLE) on the data it
sends across the radio link. RLE compresses repeated characters going from the host to the
mobile computer. If repeated characters are found in the data stream, the first one is sent, fol-
lowed by a short escape sequence (3 or 4 characters) which tells the mobile computer how
many times to repeat this character. In this way RLE compresses the data and decreases the
total amount of radio-link traffic.
Convert 7 to 8 Bits
If this parameter is enabled, the 9160 G2 converts 7-bit control sequences to their 8-bit
equivalents in ANSI data streams going to the mobile computers. This replaces two-charac-
ter escape sequences with a single equivalent character, compressing the data.
Lower Character Set (GL)
This should be set to the same character set as selected in the mobile computers. This param-
eter is only used when page saving is enabled.
Upper Character Set (GR)
This should be set to the same character set as selected in the mobile computers. This param-
eter is only used when page saving is enabled.
Terminal Initialization Data / Host Initialization Data
These fields are used to enter data which will be sent from the controller to the mobile com-
puter, or from the controller to the host, every time a mobile computer is reset. For example,
these can be used to request a host refresh, or to reset the character sets that were set on the
mobile computer by the host at login time.
Non-printable data can be entered either as hexadecimal in the form \xnn, or in octal in the
form \nnn. For example, the escape character could be entered as \x1b or \033.
These parameters can be up to 256 characters long. If the fields are blank, then no data
is sent.
